1. Rubber gym floor

Rubber is the best flooring option for home gyms as it is ideal for covering any surface, including concrete floors, and can support the heaviest exercise equipment.

Also, their popularity is due to the fact that they offer maximum durability and shock absorption.

 

2. Gym foam floor

The foam floor creates a soft cushioning that is ideal for newcomers to the sporting world, for bodyweight exercises, and floor work.

It is easy to maintain, but much less durable than other types of flooring. It is also not suitable for more intense workouts or heavy gym equipment, as the foam is much more susceptible to cuts and damage.

Another favorite for exercises that require the floor to be the support, such as yoga or Pilates. This material is highly resistant to shocks, however, it does not tolerate elements of weight, such as machines or weights themselves, over time the floor is left with marks and dents that will require a change of the material.

3. Vinyl gym flooring

The vinyl floors are an excellent choice for gym floors at home. This type of flooring is waterproof, easy to clean, and helps your gym blend in perfectly with the minimalist style of your apartment.

One reason to choose vinyl for gym flooring in garages and basements is that it is resistant to mold and moisture. Also, it is extremely durable and can support the weight of heavy exercise equipment.

However, vinyl isn’t the best when it comes to shock absorption.

 

4. Gym mats

The mat is also popular for home gym flooring. You can install a wall-to-wall mat or use carpet tiles to make installation easier. Just be sure to select a good commercial quality mat for better traction and stability when exercising.

5. Interlocking rubber tiles

Many people confuse this type of flooring with rubber flooring, however, the difference in resistance is great and the uses are different.

This type of surface is one of the favorites if we talk about home gyms since due to its shape it facilitates assembly and disassembly when temporary spaces for training are needed, the composite material with recycled rubber granulometry gives it excellent absorption, flexibility, and resistance to falling heavy objects.

The presentation is generally in pieces of 1mt x 1mt and the most commercial thicknesses are 6 and 10mm, the preferred color is black and it may have sparks of EPDM colors.

7. Wood Gym floor

The wood floors can give your home gym a professional look and are suitable for almost any type of exercise.

Thanks to the innovative foam backing, today’s wooden floors are more resistant to impacts and suitable for exercise. However, they can get scratched and chipped if the weights are dropped too hard. Also, it can become slippery from excessive sweating.

On the other hand, for those who like aerobic exercise, kickboxing, or dancing, a hardwood floor can be a surprising addition to any workout space.

So, if we start to think about what should be taken into account when choosing a floor to condition a gym, commercial or home, we must consider different factors:

  • The floor must support the weight of equipment, machinery, and weights.
  • There is a high probability that liquids will be spilled and sweat will drip onto surfaces.
  • There will be strong and constant pressure on the ground.
  • The floor must be non-slip to avoid accidents.
  • It is ideal that it absorbs the impacts so that you do not hurt your joints when jumping or running.
  • The uniformity of the surface is essential.
